Losing Track
(Team, University Project)
(Team, University Project)
Losing Track was my first university team project.
Losing track is a 1st person time trials game where you play as a train conductor in the bowels of the underworld, driving your own skeletal train through the dark lands below. Ferry souls across the deserted lands to their holiday destination of an un-life time! Avoid the perilous obstacles that stand in the way of your Dino-Train and get your ghostly passengers to the scorched beaches of Avernus as soon as possible.
Losing Track was my first time working with a team in a games development context. It was created for the COMP 2003 module for my undergraduate degree. My role in the team was the product owner and co-asset creator.
I created all assets for the controllable train and rails in the game. This was my first time modelling on a large scale in a working team so I had to get to grips with Blender and adjusting the model based on feedback in weekly meetings.
As mentioned, this was my first time working in a focused games development team for an extended period of time. It really highlighted to me during the development of this project how important clear communication about sprint goals and progress is.
For example, during the middle of development, due to a lack of communication in a stand up meeting, more work was going into an understood scrapped feature and asset to accompany it. This led to goals falling behind, despite the ‘correct’ progress being made. From then on, I have been meticulous about what team member has completed what and what is being moved ahead with.
